Maya - UX Design

About The Company

Maya is a AI integrated chatbot assistant that helps in the recruitment processes of companies. It is a brand new feature of the software 'Talentpool'. Talentpool is a recruitment processing software that helps collect, manage and process applicant information, among various levels of users in the company. Maya was essentially designed for managers, keeping in mind their schedule and workflow. It helps in pre and post interview processes like - scheduling, feedback and follow ups. The chatbot is well integrated into the daily workflows of the managers to expedite the hiring process in choosing the right candidate.

I had contributed to the of Maya while I was employed at Talentica Software. The design brief for the project was to create an end to end experience and design a workflow for the chatbot to regularise its functioning and create consistent behavioural patterns. Both desktop and mobile versions were created along with specific guidelines. A Voice User Interface was also simulated along with the the web/mobile versions as a pitch to adapt with newer technologies and systems.

Maya Workflow

A systematic workflow was designed keeping in mind the end user's schedule and system of working. The end user being, a company manager here. To reduce the overall interaction, pre-loaded messages were created and placed in intuitive manners. This system effectively brings down the learning curve for the user and generates greater productivity.

Wireframing

After completing the flow, we moved on to creating different iterations of wireframes to decide the placement of materials and find the appropriate solution for the hierarchy of information. The most important point here was to make the interface extremely predictable and intuitive, to reduce confusion, clutter and to decrease the learning curve. The usability heuristics were especially important for because the entire objective for Maya was to - 'cut the clutter' and 'get to the point'.

Since this was a chat interface, the goal was to create a simple, and understandable flow. However, the complexity of the supposed conversation made it challenging initially. Multiple details like 'candidate information', 'position in formation' 'feedback details' etcAt this point, we came up with the idea of creating cards for multiple information (as seen in the image on the left). The cards could hold, multiple information like - candidate details, calendar schedules, position details etc. Integrating it into the UI was simple as we integrated horizontal scroll to the card section. The cards were also clickable, so each one would lead to their specific details page, in a new tab for the viewer to read / fill forms / etc.

The interface was designed for both mobile and desktop use. However, the wireframes were developed only for the mobile screen, since our primary use case was centred around mobile usage mostly.

Although our main inspirations were Apple's Siri and Google Assistant, we wanted to create a more tailor made UX for Talentpool, suited to its design language and overall structure.

UI Designs

The UI designs were created based on the final wireframes. It was developed following the design language of the primary talent pool website. However, since the end user would be vastly different from the end users of the primary Talentpool platform, we took some creative liberties to design the aesthetics and overall appeal of the interface, with a subdued pastel palette and 'viewer friendly' curved and rounded shapes. This made the chat interface more inviting, visibly friendlier, easy to read and more organised. Below are some screens that demonstrate the final UI of Maya.

Voice User Interface

We developed a voice user interface for Maya, to show how it can be adaptable to suit the newer technologies - voice driven interfaces. Not only does it improve the accessibility of Maya, but also , makes it even more intelligent, simple and intuitive. However, the VUI was developed only as a proof of concept and is yet to be developed.
